This notice covers Scan to Save: the app at scantosave.andykemp.com and the cards at scantosave.app. It explains what we keep, why, for how long, who else handles it, and what you can do about it. Your free Andy Kemp account is covered by the andykemp.com privacy policy.
Who we are
Scan to Save is run by Andy Kemp Consulting Ltd, registered in Scotland (company number SC878818), Office 395, 18 Young Street, Edinburgh EH2 4JB. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us at hello@andykemp.com.
If you have a card
| What | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Your account email, from your Andy Kemp account | To sign you in to My card and link it to your card | While you have a card |
| Your request: name, company and what you said about how you'd use it | To decide on early access | Approved: while you have a card. Declined: 12 months after the decision |
| Your card: everything you add on My card, such as name, job title, company, email, phone numbers, WhatsApp number, website, links and bio | To show your card and make the contact people save | Until you change it or delete your card |
| Your pictures: photo, company logo and badges, and your Apple Wallet pass | The same | Until you replace them or delete your card |
| Views of your card: when, how (QR code, Wallet or link) and the country | To show you how many people opened your card | 90 days |
The legal basis is contract: you asked us for a card, and we need this to provide it. For view counts it's our legitimate interest in showing you how your card is used, which needs very little data and nothing about who opened it.
You choose what's public. Everything on your card can be seen by anyone with your QR code or its link, and by anyone at all if you make your card public. Public cards can appear in search results. People who save your contact keep their copy on their own device, and we can't take it back.
If you open or save someone's card
We don't ask who you are and don't set cookies on cards. We record the time, how you got there (QR code, Wallet or link) and your country, worked out by our host from your connection, so the card's owner can see a count of views. We don't store your IP address. Saving the contact downloads a file to your device; we don't see what you do with it.
Who else handles it
- Cloudflare hosts Scan to Save, its database and its pictures. Like any web host it processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect them from abuse, and keeps short-lived request logs for running the service.
- Clerk provides sign-in for your Andy Kemp account. It sets the essential cookies that keep you signed in to My card.
- Apple receives your Wallet pass only when you add it to Apple Wallet on your own device.
Cloudflare and Clerk may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising, and we don't use it to train AI models.
Andy Kemp Consulting can see cards and requests to approve them, suspend a card that breaks the early access terms, and keep the service running. Those actions are recorded in an audit log, kept for 2 years.
Your rights
- See and correct what we hold: everything on your card is on My card, and you can change it at any time.
- Delete: Delete my card on My card removes your card, pictures, Wallet pass, views and requests straight away. Your QR code stops working.
- Take a copy: your card's Save contact file is a standard vCard you can keep or import elsewhere.
- You can also ask us for a copy of your data, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it, by emailing hello@andykemp.com. We'll reply within one month.
To delete your Andy Kemp account as well, use My Account on www.andykemp.com or email us.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change how Scan to Save uses personal data, we'll update this notice and the date at the top, and tell card holders about anything significant.
